Continuation of WEEE recycling service

The local scheme to collect unwanted small Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) items will be continuing in the district, after a very successful trial last year.

In January 2020, when the scheme was introduced at various sites, more than 7,000 tonnes were collected when Braintree District residents dropped off the items at different drop-off locations which meant they did not go into the general household waste.

Going forward, the WEEE Recycling vehicle will be visiting the designated locations on a four-weekly cycle on Wednesdays.

All electrical items contain chemicals, some of which can be hazardous if they are incorrectly disposed of and if not treated properly, they can be harmful to the environment and pose a health risk, as well as having an impact on climate change. The WEEE collected is recycled in the proper manner in order to pass the General Product Safety Regulations.
