The law says employers must make sure there is an adequate supply of fresh air (ventilation) in enclosed areas of the workplace.

Businesses can do this by using:

  • natural ventilation - fresh air which comes in through open windows, doors or air vents

  • mechanical ventilation - fans and ducts which bring in fresh air from outside

The Health & Safety Executive has published updated guidance to help employees and customers stay safe. The guidance includes information on:

  • identifying poorly ventilated areas

  • deciding on the steps to take to improve ventilation

  • assessing the risk from breathing in small particles of the virus (aerosol transmission) in enclosed areas

  • Read the updated guidance here
