The Big Switch Off is a BT Openreach scheme and means those who currently have a landline phone will need to switch to an internet-based service.
The switch off will be happening by December 2025, and for people with an existing broadband connection and a modern phone this will simply mean unplugging their handset and plugging it into their router.
However, we are aware that a minority of households as well as some businesses do not have an internet connection, and will need to find an alternative option for their phone systems before the switch off.
Please share this amongst your communities, and reassure residents that they do not need to act immediately and should wait until phone companies get in touch to explain the process. It is important people don't feel rushed into making a decision and take some time to review all available options.
